The Sound of Vinyl

History of Vinyl Records
Did you know that vinyl records have a very long history? It all started in the 19th century, when Thomas Edison invented the phonograph in 1877. The first records weren't like the ones we know today: they were tin or wax cylinders that, while revolutionary, were super delicate and didn't hold much music. But then, in 1887, Emile Berliner came along and brought the gramophone, which used flat discs instead of cylinders. These records started out as rubber, then moved on to aluminum acetate, and finally made their way to vinyl! That's when the magic began.
Vinyl records were a big hit in the 50s and 60s, especially with LPs, which could hold an entire album. Then cassettes and CDs came along, and vinyl took a backseat, but it never really disappeared. In recent years, vinyl has made a comeback, with more and more people choosing it for that warm, authentic sound not found in other formats. A 40% increase in sales in 2020 says it all!
The Analog Sound of Vinyl Records
Vinyl has a unique sound. Each record has a spiral groove, where sound waves are physically stored. When you put the needle on your record player in that groove, it follows the vibrations and converts that movement into music. It's a completely analog process! Many say that's the “magic” of vinyl: a natural sound, without digital conversions that take away the real touch. Plus, vinyl has a special “warmth” that you just don't find in digital sound.
Nowadays, turntables are much more advanced than those of the past: some have USB outputs, adjustable speeds, high-quality cartridges, you name it! But the essence remains the same: a needle that slides over the record, making the music come to life in the moment.
Vinyl Record Storage
Is your vinyl collection still growing? Then it's time to think about where to store it. Beyond practicality, vinyl furniture can add a special touch to any room. You can find shelves that display the covers (perfect for showing off your collection) or boxes that protect them and are easy to transport. So, in addition to having a place to store them, you can also make your collection look amazing!
In recent years, designer vinyl record furniture has become very popular. From shelves that imitate record store counters to minimalist and modern designs, there is something for everyone so you can find the style that suits you best.
But it's not just about aesthetics: a good vinyl record cabinet should also protect your records. It's best to keep them upright and with space between them to prevent them from warping. And beware: vinyl records should be kept away from direct sunlight, heat and humidity. So when you choose the perfect cabinet, you'll also be taking care of your records so they keep sounding great for a long time.
