A standard bookshelf is too shallow and too weak for vinyl. A proper record shelf runs 32–33 cm deep, holds the 12" sleeve upright, and carries the full weight without bowing.
Why your records need real shelves
Records are deeper, heavier and less forgiving than books. A 12" sleeve needs 32–33 cm of internal depth or it overhangs and bends; it needs to stand dead vertical or it warps; and the shelf beneath it has to carry 16–18 kg per running section without flexing. Standard bookshelves miss on all three, which is why records stored on them lean, slide and curl at the edges.
